Books To End Your Reading Slump!
5 Books you will fly through
I don't know about you, but I've been through a few reading slumps in my life, and they are the worst. I hate picking up a book that I'm so excited about reading and then simply not being able to get into it. My mind just starts wandering and then I don't know whats going on in the story and its just not a good experience. However, I'm proud to announce that I've found some book slump cures. These books are fast paced and super engaging throughout the entire story. They are also pretty easy to follow which makes them even better book-slump curers. These are also perfect books if you're looking to get introduced to reading. Anyway, here is my list of five books that I highly recommend to people going through a book slump, but also just anyone else who loves to read!
- The Martian by Andy Weir
I read this book at the end of last year, and I think I finished it in two days. It was published a while ago, and there was a great movie based on the story, but I still find it to be one of the most interesting, yet engaging, science fiction novels out there. It follows Mark Watney, an astronaut who is stranded on Mars, and his experience trying to survive the harsh Martian climate. It's really exciting and Andy Weir explained the science behind the story really well, too. I'm a science nerd, so this was an amazing read for me.
2. Where the Crawdad's Sing by Delia Owens
I finished this in less than 24 hours, it was that good. I don't really want to tell too much about the plot because its so much better going in blind, but just take my word that this is an amazing read. The characters are so richly developed and the writing is beautiful. Highly recommend.
3. Starters and Enders by Lissa Price
This duology I finished in two days--one book a day. I read these two a long time ago, but I still recommend then to young readers. These books follow a girl named Callie in a dystopian world where older people, called "Enders," can rent out the bodies of the younger generation. Callie rents out her body in order to help her family survive, but when a part of the renting process goes wrong, everything changes. The books are super short and I just thought that the concept of the story was really cool, and I really loved how the author brought everything to life.
4. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
I just started college, so I felt such a connection to the main character, Kath, from the beginning. She's a fangirl, I'm a fangirl; we both prefer fictional characters to real people and are both pretty shy. That being said, I finished this book in two days. The characters are so real, and even if you don't feel a connection to Kath, the other characters are equally as unique. I'll hold this book close to my heart for the rest of my life.
5. Universe of Two by Stephen Kiernan
I actually received an ARC of this book back in March through Goodreads, and I've read it twice already this year. It is definitely one of my favorite books of all time. It switches perspectives between a boy who works on the Manhattan Project and a girl who falls in love with him. That's all I want to tell you because I don't want to give anymore away! The story is so rich and full of life and so sweet and beautiful and I absolutely loved it. It's finally available on Amazon, so please pick it up if you have a chance! I recommend it to everyone; especially World War II fans!
That's the list! I hope you liked it and found at least one of these books worth a read when you're experiencing your next reading slump. Let me know what books you flew through, too. I'm always looking for recommendations!
